Rashid Latif Khan University Lahore believes that the English language and literature studies have become quite popular in Pakistani academia and are currently among the most popular fields of study in the Arts and Humanities because English language is recognized as one of the most important languages of the world; hence, it is the chosen medium of instruction in Pakistani institutions of higher education. Due to its versatility it has become the language of cutting-edge technology in addition to being widely spoken and understood giving English studies a special significance in the 21st century. The Department of English Language and Literature of Rashid Latif Khan University Lahore, a quickly growing private sector institution, is regarded as the hub of continuous academic advancement with a focus on producing English language and literature undergraduates having a solid foundation in both English language and literature. That is why the study plans are regularly developed and revised to support the University's aim of continuous quality improvement and to stay up to speed with new developments in the relevant subjects. Thus, in compliance with the HEC Undergrad Policy 2023, Rashid Latif Khan University Lahore has designed the popular undergraduate degree program in Arts & Humanities, Associate Degree in English (ADP in English), in order to satisfy the demands of Pakistani students who wish to succeed in these academic areas and remain current with the most recent developments in the domains of English language and literature, both nationally and internationally. The program helps students develop the comprehension and critical thinking abilities required to analyze linguistic performance and in order to improve students' critical thinking abilities and assess discourses created in unfamiliar or foreign cultural contexts, the designed scheme of studies exposes them to a wide variety of literary texts from throughout the globe. In addition to encouraging students to appreciate the multiplicity of literary and social voices within the great traditions of literature and culture, it also teaches them how to write for a range of professional and social situations with grammatical accuracy, stylistic clarity, and pragmatic awareness.

Vision:

The program envisions to equip English language and literature undergraduates with the content knowledge, abilities, and superior professional conduct necessary for success in the twenty-first century to impact society positively.

Misson:

To give students a thorough understanding of multidimensional facets of English language and literature by developing their linguistic and literary sensibility, that will enable them to think critically about language and literature. The ultimate goal is to provide the students with high-quality professional skills.

Objectives of the ADP in English:

The University hopes that after the completion of BS English (Language and Literature) program, the undergraduates will:
possess the ability to read and comprehend complex literary texts;
understand the current research trends and practices in the fields of English language and literature; be able to decipher the narrative codes and linguistic structures that the texts have been based upon;
be able to write lengthy descriptive and analytical manuscripts;
be able to use academic jargon and critical faculties to comprehend and produce spoken and written analyses of the literary texts;
be able to comprehend the relationship between texts and contexts, thereby developing the critical faculties necessary to understand the relationship between their knowledge and the world they live in; and
be familiar with the advanced research in English language and literature.

Program Outcomes

Following the program's successful conclusion, the students will:
develop all-around English language skills to thrive in a highly competitive job market;
explore new career paths such as public speaking, professional blog writing, computer-assisted language systems, film and screen media, and manuscript translation; and
exhibit themselves as responsible citizens who are more aware of their position and role.

Admission Criteria:

For students who have passed F.A / F.Sc, I.Com or *equivalent in Annual system
Minimum 45% marks in F.A / F.Sc, I.Com or *equivalent
Minimum 45% marks in English compulsory subject
